This presentation will explore the different aspects of New Mexico’s economy - what has happened historically and what may be in store for the state in the near future. Specifically, the presentation will cover the economic forecast for the State in 2023, the likelihood of a recession and how New Mexico is likely to fare compared to the region and the nation as a whole, and how varying economic forces impact the construction industry in our state.

Presenter: Joel Salas, Economist - New Mexico Economic Development Department

Joel Salas is an Economist at the New Mexico Economic Development Department where he has been for the last 4 years. A New Mexico native, growing up in Ruidoso before moving to Albuquerque to attend UNM where he received a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master of Business Administration. With a data focused skillset, Joel aided in the creation of and co-authors the departments Quarterly Economic Summaries which give an easy-to-read overview of various economic metrics for all 33 of New Mexico’s counties and the state as a whole.
